An integration of cultural and spiritual services
Taoyuan International Airport has always been committed to providing excellent services for passengers. For the past two years of border control, the airport has made every effort to improve its hardware and software facilities, striving to safeguard the health of passengers with various rigorous disinfection measures. It has been certified for a second time by Airport Council International’s (ACI) Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) program with an award of “The Voice of The Customer,” which always captures the airport’s attention. Taoyuan International Airport will never stop the pace to protect the safety of passengers, gaining international recognition.
During the hiatus of the pandemic, the airport effectively promoted the third-generation “e-Gate Enrollment System,” which was the result of ceaseless optimization. This system is now open to outbound foreign passengers with a more friendly multilingual interface as well as a function of detecting moving facial recognition. Plans are set to have more countries sign up reciprocally to facilitate frequent business visits to Taiwan. The airport provides a variety of transportation options. Apart from the MRT between the airport and the Taipei Metro Area, passengers may take an MRT or a highway bus from the airport to reach other cities via transfer at Taoyuan high-speed railway station. Lounges are decorated thematically with Taiwan’s characteristic elements such as faience pottery, indigenous culture as well as unique animals and plants.
A main hub airport connecting North America and East Asia
In recent years, given the location between Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania, Taoyuan International Airport has been playing an important role in the international cargo shipment. Domestic national airlines have busy routes to China and North America with a high capacity, which is another advantage.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the airport has managed to maintain as a hub airport in East Asia, mainly due to Taiwan's excellent epidemic prevention, proved by a later reputation as an epidemic prevention model. Because of this favorable factor, domestic national airlines were able to fully absorb the surrounding demand occurred from the lost capacity caused by the pandemic. Furthermore, Taoyuan International Airport has organized a cold chain working group to assist airlines and warehousing companies in obtaining IATA cold chain certification so as to seize business opportunities for shipping vaccines and personal protective equipment. The global lockdown for epidemic prevention has contributed to supply chain disruption and the formation of a work-from-home lifestyle; however, this has greatly helped Taiwan's semiconductor as well as information and communication industries with considerable exports.
Taoyuan International Airport forecasts the demand for the air cargo in 2040 will exceed 4.02 million tonnes, and in response to this trend, the airport is planning to develop a new cargo park and the second free trade port area in the northeast of the airport with an area of 100 hectares. The construction of the above two sites is expected to be completed in 2030. After completion, the whole area will be operating in the centralized management mode instead of the distributed management mode currently used. A new design concept of 3D, intelligence, and automation will be applied. With the increasing demand for cross-border and cold chain logistics, facilities such as express warehousing and temperature-controlled special warehouses are required, and owning international certifications will be a must for those stationed in the industry. How to plan the airport's traffic routes, how to shorten the transportation time, and how to achieve the efficiency of cargo handling are key factors for Taiwan to become an important value-added base of transshipment and logistics in East Asia.
Build a third terminal to set a benchmark for smart airports
Taoyuan International Airport is Taiwan's main gateway and is also the major hub with geographical advantages in the Asia-Pacific region. In response to the rapidly increasing trend of entry-exit and transit passenger traffic, Taoyuan International Airport has proposed a blueprint, which includes the construction of Terminal 3 and the third runway. This terminal will not just be a terminal, but rather a city within a city. Attributed to the collaboration between the engineering consultants at home and abroad, Taoyuan International Airport has set the target service capacity of 45 million passengers for Terminal 3. The airport is aiming to create a new people-oriented facility with excellent and diversified business services in the hope of making the airport a benchmark and smart airport.
To satisfy the needs of passengers and staff, the third terminal will be built to have various functions and infrastructure, of which the development scale is similar to that of a new town. With the design concept of “Green,” “Smart,” and “Culture,” it is expected that in addition to the essence of transportation, this modern airport will be shaped into a style that integrates art, tourism and humanities, signifying the heritage of Taoyuan International Airport. In the near future, passengers will see a new look of Taoyuan Airport providing the warmest service for travelers. The third terminal is designed like a soaring bird with spreading wings. After completion, it will take off and embrace the travelers from all over the world.
