Qatar Airways to buy 25% stake in Virgin Australia

Qatar Airways has announced its intention to buy a 25% stake in Virgin Australia as the Middle East airline takes a new approach to strengthening its presence in the Australian market. The Qatari flag carrier is hoping to acquire a stake in the country’s second-biggest airline from Bain Capital, subject to regulatory approval, to “drive increased competition” in Australia’s aviation market in the face of Qantas’ dominating presence. 

Aegean Airlines invests up to €50m in Volotea

Greek flag carrier Aegean Airlines has invested €25m ($27.7m) into Spanish low-cost airline Volotea through a convertible loan during a joint capital increase programme for the latter. Aegean joined existing Volotea stakeholders to provide half of a €50m investment into the airline alongside signing an agreement to cooperate in a range of areas such as distribution, codesharing, and pilot training.

NATS to become Birmingham Airport’s air traffic service provider from 2025

National Air Traffic Services (NATS) is set to serve as the new air traffic service provider of Birmingham Airport in the UK, starting in 2025. This move comes after a decade of in-house management and is part of Birmingham’s comprehensive plan to enhance its facilities and services. NATS will collaborate with Birmingham Airport to develop a technology and innovation roadmap to ensure that air traffic services can manage the airport's anticipated growth in capacity safely and efficiently.

Collins secures 10-year 787 MRO Air Europa contract

Collins Aerospace has entered an agreement with Air Europa to provide comprehensive maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for the airline’s fleet of 787 aircraft. The 10-year contract includes support through Collins’ FlightSense and Dispatch programmes, offering onsite assistance for several 787 systems including electric power, environmental control, and avionics.
