Alaska Airlines to acquire Hawaiian in $1.9bn merger

North America’s fifth largest airline Alaska Airlines will merge with Hawaiian Airlines after signing a $1.9bn acquisition agreement, though the venture will maintain both brands. 

The high-value acquisition is the latest significant merger in the US aviation industry and is likely to face scepticism from regulators, which are currently in court opposing JetBlue’s merger with Spirit. Alaska will grow its fleet to 365 planes through the acquisition.

Saudi Arabia’s NEOM invests in Boom Supersonic

Boom Supersonic has confirmed a notable investment by Saudi Arabia’s NEOM Investment Fund (NIF). Boom said that the investment from NIF, the strategic investment arm of Saudi Arabia’s $500bn urban megaproject NEOM, will include collaboration to make the region more accessible through supersonic flight as the company builds towards the first flight of its XB-1 proof-of-concept aircraft. 

Saudi PIF takes 10% stake in London Heathrow Airport from Ferrovial sale

Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, the PIF, has taken a 10% stake in the UK’s busiest airport, London Heathrow. Spanish infrastructure group Ferrovial has sold its 25% stake after downsizing in 2013. The firm sold its stake in Heathrow Airport Holdings Limited for £2.4bn ($3.04bn).

Spanish aviation manufacturer ITP Aero has announced an agreement that will allow the majority acquisition of BP Aero. This acquisition is set to strengthen ITP’s position as an independent company in the aviation industry. As stated by ITP Aero, current founders and shareholders of BP Aero will maintain involvement with the company’s operations throughout its new phase of growth.
