Spirit AeroSystems returns to Boeing in coordinated deal

Boeing has finalised a $4.7bn agreement to buy back Spirit AeroSystems in a deal which could also see Airbus take on the supplier’s activities relating to its own supply chain. 

The coordinated deal arrives after months of speculation on the issue following the blowout of a Spirit-manufactured door plug on a 737 MAX 8 plane in January and subsequent investigations by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). 

EU clears Lufthansa’s ITA takeover

The EU has given the green light to the Lufthansa Group’s partial acquisition of Italy’s ITA Airways after months of back and forth on the €325m ($350m) deal. The approval from the European Commission clears the path for the finalisation of Lufthansa’s acquisition of a 41% minority stake in the troubled Italian airline after an investigation by the body into competition concerns for the industry. 

American places hydrogen engine order and ups ZeroAvia investment

American Airlines has strengthened its investment in hydrogen aviation with a conditional order for 100 hydrogen-electric aircraft engines from ZeroAvia. American has also increased its investment in the aircraft developer after participating in its Series C financing round, building on a relationship that stems back to 2022.

Honeywell to supply avionics for United’s new 737 MAX fleet

Technology company Honeywell has signed a deal with United Airlines to supply a suite of avionics tech for the company’s incoming Boeing 737 MAX aircraft over the next ten years. The US company will supply five technologies for the planes, including a 3D weather radar and ‘intuitive’ display for pilots, a 25-hour flight data recorder, and a radar altimeter to assist instrument landings and filter out 5G interference.
